Today Matthew went to the eye doctor for a follow up - his first of many Yale follow ups. Unfortunately his ROP has progressed to Stage 2, which we knew was a possibility. He will be seen again in two weeks, and Dr. Stossel said it is just a wait and see. She said he is not a candidate for laser surgery and so hopefully sometime soon the ROP will begin to regress. For some babies it takes a month after their due date and some babies she sees for 8-9 months. We have to see which way Matthew is going to go. She did say that he is looking around a lot, and while he is not at the point of tracking objects he does seem to be very interested in looking at what is around him.Here's a picture from yesterday - another one of Matthew's faces. Side note: For any of my math dept folks that are reading this, Christopher's school has been teaching him shapes. There's your basics, but they have added on the trapezoid and the "romulus." He seemed adamant that it was romulus and not rhombus, so I fear this may have actually been what was taught to him (and also makes it seem like there is another shape in addition to the rhombus which we have, of course, already discussed with him at home! Perhaps this is the new Common Core PreSchool Geometry standard...)
